The Meadoway
The Meadoway is a transformative, city-building initiative led by Toronto and Region Conservation Authority (TRCA) in partnership with the City of Toronto and the Weston Family Foundation. The Meadoway is transforming 16 kilometres of transmission corridor in Scarborough into one of the largest urban linear greenspaces in Canada. Formerly known as the Gatineau Hydro Corridor Revitalization, The Meadoway will provide a green, active, east-west link between downtown Toronto and Rouge National Urban Park, while creating urban agriculture opportunities and connecting greenspaces across Scarborough.
East Scarborough Storefront Community Garden
The Roots of Scarborough East (R.O.S.E) community garden encourages community members to create their own sustainable environment, to build capacity and a sense of community. More than 30 plots have been allocated to community members living in the apartment buildings on Galloway, Kingston Road & Orton Park.
Guild Park and Gardens Management Plan
The purpose of the Management Plan is to provide the City of Toronto with a comprehensive framework to guide the management of the Guild Park & Gardens. The plan process involves ongoing coordination with the site’s partners – TRCA and the City of Toronto Parks Forestry & Recreation Division, as well as representatives from other participating City departments.
Highland Creek Watershed Greening Strategy
The goal of the Highland Creek Watershed Greening Strategy is to provide a strategic restoration action plan to enhance the Highland Creek valley system and overall watershed function. The strategy will focus on addressing urban stormwater management and terrestrial natural heritage system improvements and identify opportunities for various stakeholders to implement projects at a neighbourhood scale.
L’Amoreaux Park stormwater pond
The City of Toronto’s L’Amoreaux Stormwater Management Pond is a large facility in L’Amoreaux North Park that collects stormwater runoff from roads and sidewalks, which helps to reduce localized flooding. It also allows sediment in the runoff to settle to the bottom of the pond, which enhances ecological conditions and improves water quality downstream.
Neighbourhood Greening Plans
TRCA, working with local residents, as developed a series of Neighbourhood Greening Plans for the Morningside Park, Milliken Park and Cedarbrook Park communities. These plans identify opportunities to better manage stormwater, expand and reconnect isolated patches of natural habitat and restore the urban forest.
Outdoor Gathering Space at Morningside Park
TRCA is working with TD Bank Group, as part of their #TDCommonGround initiative, to create a visitor education centre that will connect Morningside Park and the Scarborough Butterfly Corridor. The centre will include an outdoor classroom and learning space, outdoor educational stations, a large pollinator meadow and a series of educational programs.
Scarborough Centre Butterfly Trail
The Scarborough Centre Butterfly Trail, TRCA with funding contribution from the Weston Family Foundation – This purpose of this initiative was to revitalize approximately 40 hectares of space under the hydro corridor between McCowan Road and Scarborough Golf Club Road.
Scarborough Waterfront Project
The vision of the Scarborough Waterfront Project is to create a system of greenspaces along the Lake Ontario shoreline which respect and protect the significant natural and cultural features of the Bluffs, enhance the terrestrial and aquatic habitat, and provide a safe and enjoyable waterfront experience.
