TRCA Celebrates 50th Anniversary of Earth Day

For Toronto and Region Conservation Authority (TRCA), every day is Earth Day.

We work with our local communities, schools, businesses, and municipalities to make an impact daily.

In 2020, Earth Day celebrates its 50th anniversary. Although communities won’t be able to come together as groups this year, we can still contribute positively as individuals, while practicing social distancing measures.

Opportunities could include a self-neighbourhood clean-up to collect garbage while walking in your own community, and challenging others to do the same.

For self-neighbourhood cleanups, please ensure compliance with local and federal health advisories regarding physical distancing and sanitary awareness.

In celebration of Earth Day’s 50th anniversary, please consider supporting conservation projects that protect and restore natural and cultural heritage and strengthen communities in the Toronto region by making a symbolic animal adoption on the Toronto and Region Conservation Foundation website.

This month, TRCA has introduced fun e-Learning videos, activities, and resources that will help families deepen their understanding and appreciation of nature, ecology, and cultural heritage — all from the comfort of home:

  • Our new e-learning initiative At Home With Nature provides opportunities for users of all ages to join in on learning at home through Instagram Q&A’s and Facebook Live sessions.
  • Our At Home With Nature webpage provides a listing of upcoming online events, as well as videos of previous Facebook Live sessions, and downloadable resources. Check back regularly as we continue to add new resources.
  • Our hashtag for the e-learning initiative is #AtHomeWithNature. You can find us on Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook.
