West Don River near Langstaff Park

Toronto and Region Conservation Authority (TRCA) conducted remedial bank stabilization works for sanitary infrastructure protection along the West Don River, in the City of Vaughan. The main objective of the works was to stabilize the failed bank in order to protect regional sanitary infrastructure and to reduce public safety risks.

Project Location

The West Don River near Langstaff Park Sanitary Protection Project (P-128) was located along a section of the West Don River, within the Don River watershed. The closest major intersection to the project area is Langstaff Road and Keele Street, in the City of Vaughan.

Scope of Work

  • Start date: November 2019
  • End date: June 2020

The West Don River near Langstaff Park Sanitary Protection Project (P-128) was considered high priority because bank erosion posed a risk to regional sanitary infrastructure and overall public safety. The scope of work included the following:

  • Installation of a 35 metre long vegetated rock buttress with woody debris aquatic habitat treatments
  • Restoration including native tree and shrub plantings, invasive species removal and trail improvements
